Fagiani's Cocktail Lounge closed on the night of July 10, 1974, and never quite reopened — not really. That was the night Anita Andrews was found stabbed and strangled behind the bar, and for nearly forty years her sister Muriel left the building sealed and untouched on Main Street: a ghost of a bar, frozen mid-shift. Locals who pressed their faces to the glass swore nothing inside had moved. They also said they felt watched. Whatever lingers in those tiled walls — grief, guilt, or something that predates both — the building has a way of unsettling the people who linger in it long enough.

Built in 1908 in the Renaissance Revival style, 813 Main Street opened as The Thomas Restaurant before Nicola Fagiani purchased it in 1945, added Art Deco blue-and-red tilework, and converted it to Fagiani's Cocktail Lounge. Then came July 10, 1974: Anita Fagiani Andrews, a 51-year-old ex-beauty queen, was murdered at closing time — stabbed and strangled, the case cold for 36 years. A cigarette butt left in a bar ashtray eventually named Roy Melanson, already imprisoned in Colorado. The record calls it solved. The building, now Quilt & Co., holds its own opinion.
