The Old South Pittsburg Hospital talks back after dark — literally, people say. Investigators report disembodied voices slicing through silence, phantom footsteps shadowing them between floors, and infant cries drifting from a maternity ward empty since 1998. Shadow figures reportedly stalk the third-floor surgical wing, while something enormous — witnesses put it above seven feet — is said to pace the upper hall and has allegedly told the living, out loud, to leave. A gentler presence, a small boy named Buddy, is said to still wander the wards, curious and unhurried.
Historical context
Four local physicians founded South Pittsburg Municipal Hospital in 1959 — 68,000 square feet at the base of South Pittsburg Mountain. The land predates the building by centuries: a Chiaha Nation settlement anchored by a spring still flowing under the basement, later seized by Union soldiers in summer 1863. The hospital expanded through multiple additions before closing in 1998, transferring its last patients to Chattanooga. Paranormal investigator Ronne D later purchased and rebranded it the OSPHPRC; Destination Fear, Kindred Spirits, and Paranormal Challenge have all filmed here since.
