Fell's Point after midnight feels like the harbor is listening. At the Horse You Came In On — built 1775, allegedly Poe's last stop before oblivion — regulars report flickering lights, coins moved by unseen hands, and a presence the staff call Edgar; some leave whiskey out at closing, just in case. At the Admiral Fell Inn, EVP hunters claim a woman named Emma answered from the basement, room 413 reportedly carries a violent death's charge, and a Lady in White moves through solid walls upstairs. Press-gang victims, brothel workers, lost sailors — the cobblestones remember every one of them.

William Fell, a Quaker carpenter from Lancashire, arrived c. 1726–1730, platted a shipyard on what locals called Copus Harbor, and inadvertently founded a neighborhood. By the Revolution it was launching the lethal Baltimore Clipper. By the 1800s it ran on bars, brothels, and boarding houses — plus a press-gang trade conscripting drunk sailors into unwilling voyages. The Fire of 1904 bypassed the district, leaving 18th-century brick intact. A 1966 highway plan nearly finished what fire didn't; activists killed it, preserving one of the East Coast's densest pockets of old haunted real estate.
