The Bailey Road / River Road Overpass carries the kind of darkness that begins with one death and gathers others around it. Local legend speaks of a headless figure near the old railroad embankment, a shadow seen where William Beatson was murdered and decapitated in 1853. The woods, arches, and old rail paths are also tied to the later Doodlebug train disaster, giving the corridor a layered sense of grief. Visitors describe the area as heavy and watchful, as if the bridge remembers both the blood on the stones and the fire on the tracks.

The haunting is rooted in the 1853 murder of William Beatson near the railroad bridge along the Cuyahoga Falls and Munroe Falls border. After a drunken argument, James Parks killed Beatson, removed his head, and attempted to hide the body near the river and canal. Parks was later convicted and publicly hanged in Akron. Nearly a century later, the area saw another tragedy when the Doodlebug shuttle train collided with a freight train in 1940, killing 43 people. The old bridge layout has changed, but the railroad arches and wooded paths remain as a stark passage between documented crime and local legend.
