Paranormal summarySomething about the Bisbee Grand has never quite let go of its 1906 guests. Stand in the upstairs hall long enough and you may hear laughter — close, intimate, with no source. Sleepers have woken to find a young woman in old-fashioned dress standing silent at the foot of their beds, gone before they can blink. Downstairs, the piano in the dining room has reportedly played itself, and wandering figures — a man, a woman — drift the corridors on some errand the living can't follow. The mining era, it seems, still has reservations.
Historical contextBuilt in 1906 at the peak of Bisbee's copper boom, the Grand sits dead-center on Main Street — a Victorian saloon-hotel that catered to miners flush with Phelps Dodge wages. Bisbee was once the largest city between St. Louis and San Francisco, a fact the town has never quite gotten over. The hotel has changed hands and paint colors; it has not, if the guests are to be believed, changed its permanent occupancy.
